Following the closing of many schools and universities for avoiding the propagation of the Coronavirus, Kosmos, the specialist in the digital transformation for education, established emergency measures for assisting high-schools and junior schools in maintaining educational continuity and links with students and families.

Interactive features already in place for ensuring educational continuity

The Skolengo EMS offers many interactive features that allow teachers to maintain educational links in the context of imposed lockdown measures.

With the teaching binder, teachers can create activities using professional tools like the audio recorder, the exerciser, audio and video files, attached documents, free text, hypertext links, etc. They can easily distribute their activities to students that allow the latter to quickly find and consult all the resources and activities sent by their teacher in a single location.

With the Skolengo organiser, the teacher can put on-line, the work-to-do and keep track of the on-line delivery of student returns. They can check the state of advancement of the on-line delivery of each work. They have the possibility of asking students to deliver their work on-line in different forms: by completing a text under the instruction or by attaching a file, using the audio recorder (tool integrated into Skolengo), or filling out a form. For each work-to-do, the teacher has the possibility of producing a global corrected paper that they can distribute to several classes or groups of student or an individual corrected paper per student. Students have on-line access to all the homework to deliver as well as the list of the next classes and associated work load.

Skolengo is not only a platform for the exchange of documents and writings. It incorporates interactive tools such as the audio recorder or video sharing allowing students to also work orally.

The EMS’s synchronous collaborative tools such as the blog, the chat or the pad, allow students to stay in touch with the teacher. Teachers can program a chat session on a subject of a particular class for exchanging ideas with the students in real-time. The forum led by one or more teachers can also be used so that students retain a link with each other. This mode of exchange brings an important human aspect in this context of remote learning.

Retaining the flow of information between the school and families using the EMS

On Skolengo, parents can find all the concrete, practical information on the evolution of the situation. Schools have several features in the EMS for communicating with families on the management of this exceptional event but also for retaining administrative and educational discussions with teachers. They can distribute information via the EMS messaging service, use the targeted communication for putting an announcement on the home page and make use of the news section for publishing important information that can be consulted on a mobile phone at any time.

To maintain links between families, the EMS also offers interactive tools such as the form that, for example, allows parents to organise together to welcome students whose parents are not available.
