Page speed (page loading time) is an essential criterion today for the SEO of your university or higher-education school website. Why? Because the time to load a page is one of the key elements retained by Google for search engine ranking and positioning the content of your internet site.

With Kosmos solutioning, you will benefit from an efficient website, adapted to the professional challenges of education and based on our CMS solution. Our solution meets the challenge of speed and establishes its loading time at less than 1 second.

Kosmos CMS: a page speed of less than 1 second

Our CMS solution is especially suitable for higher-education establishments and has successfully passed the page speed test.

In 2020, the Central Nantes engineering school carried out an SEO audit on its internet site created with Kosmos solutioning. The website loading time was analyzed amongst all the measurement criteria. It was found to be less than one second.

This means that for a website created with Kosmos, whose content is optimized and for which the hosting structure is properly sized, the loading time lives up perfectly to Google standards.

SEO, page speed and user experience

Page speed of course has an impact on the search engine ranking and positioning of your website content on Google. The lower the loading time, the more your pages are ranked and positioned in the search results (SERP-search engine result page).

According to Google, the loading time is not yet one of the most important search engine ranking criteria. However, in the context of very high competition on SEO, we know that each search engine ranking criterion must be worked on as it can help you win places.

For 2021, however, Google has announced a change in its algorithm giving more weight to the user experience. In fact, the Web Vitals, these three quality indicators allowing user experience on a website to be measured, should lead to modifications of the Google algorithm and the SERPs.

Two of these three indicators, the Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) and the First Input Delay (FID), focus particularly on the loading time needed to display the main content of the page and the time between the user’s first interaction with a page and the point at which the browser responds to it.

Apart from the question of search engine ranking, don’t forget that the longer the loading time for a page increases, the less users have the patience to wait for it to load.

Do you have a loading time problem? How to find solutions?

If you identify a loading time that is too long, you must understand that there may be several reasons for the problem:

  • Configuration of the solution, specific CSSs (Cascading Style Sheets) to optimize;
  • The contribution added to the website, e.g. volume of images too great;
  • Infrastructure and hosting.

We recommend that the stakeholders (communication department, service provider, IT department) meet so that they can analyze the situation together and find long-lasting solutions.
