The AMOA study is an essential step for the upstream securing of digital projects. Before beginning to draft the specifications, it allows you to identify your professional needs and associated features, and to formalize and prioritize them. It will also allow you to determine the time required and the costs of the project. You will then have all the elements you need to best manage your digital project according to your professional needs.

The 5 key steps of the AMOA study

1 - Formulating needs and identifying desired uses

The first step of the AMOA study consists of meeting with the different stakeholders of the project whether they are deciders or professional users.
These discussions, in the form of workshops, individual interviews or online questionnaires, allow you to define the needs and to check if they are in line with the project vision, such as been defined.

2 - Prioritizing needs and features

During these discussions, the AMOA study allows you to gather the maximum number of elements regarding the needs and uses so you can associate the features and check their relevance for users.
This involves producing a hierarchy of needs and features in order to offer a clear, controlled functional scope and to project yourself into the timeline of the project. Priority needs and features can then be part of an initial developmental work-package while those with lower priority can be produced later.

3 - Sizing the digital project

At the end of the AMOA study, you will have a list of features and, for each of these, the time needed for their development.
You can then quickly determine whether or not the sizing imagined prior to the study is realistic.
The study will help you answer the essential questions:

  • Can all the desired features be developed within the deadline?
  • Will my budget cover all the targeted scope?
  • What must I prioritize to best respond to professional needs?

4 - Identifying key points on the digital project

The study naturally underlines the risks of the project with respect to data transfer, features, non-finalized subjects on the professional side, technological choices, etc.
Different scenarios can be considered for minimizing these risks and for offering that which seems the most relevant with regard to the needs expressed by your users.

5 - Having the necessary input data for drawing up your specifications

The study is there to provide you with all the elements that will allow you to draw up your functional specifications and to identify those that were not provided for in the initial scope that you set for yourself.
You will thus be able to establish your specifications:

  • Goals/budget matching
  • Functional and technical scope/user needs matching

AMOA advice: the Kosmos method

As an EdTech company, Kosmos has more than 20 years of professional expertise in managing your digital projects related to higher and secondary education (website, intranet, connected portals, registration portals, etc.). It is a real powerhouse for assisting you in carrying out the AMOA studies.

The AMOA studies conducted by Kosmos rely on its professional expertise and a proven methodology.

A steering committee composed of experts and deciders can structure the project: the study and arbitrate on subjects.

User groups are formed by the steering committee. These groups are at the core of the procedure and are listened to during workshops or individual interviews. Remote questionnaires allow discussions to continue outside of workshops. All these discussions can be held remotely. The workshops last 2 hours maximum.

Three additional profiles participate during the study:

  • A project head/ functional and professional consultant who steers the study, runs the workshops and meetings, draws up and presents the conclusions of the study;
  • A UX/UI designer/artistic director who participates in all discussions to understand the user journeys and who models them in a mockup or a wireframe;
  • A leaddev/technical architect who analyses the technical scenarios, the feasibility of developments and who sizes the features.

Kosmos clients are not wrong. More and more of them are asking the Nantes-based EdTech company to conduct AMOA/ AMOE studies [Contracting party assistant/Project Manager Assistant].
